Taylor Swift’s experience at the Golden Globes seemed to be a blend of highs and lows.
The positive aspects of her night included a dazzling appearance on the red carpet in a sparkling green Gucci dress, igniting speculation among Swifties about which rerecorded album she might be teasing. Despite the association with her debut album, Taylor Swift, the sequins seemingly channeled Reputation snake scales. Additionally, Swift enjoyed the company of close friend Keleigh Teller, celebrated Emma Stone’s victory, and indulged in some juicy gossip courtesy of Selena Gomez, whether it was Kylothée-related or not.
However, the evening took a downturn when Swift lost her fifth Golden Globe, following a rather lackluster joke at her expense by host Jo Koy. The comedian’s remark about the awards show having “fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift” was met with a less-than-enthused reaction from Swift herself. The awkward moment was highlighted by the numerous times the camera panned to Swift throughout the night.
While not egregiously offensive, the joke didn’t sit well with Swift fans, who would rather see her celebrated for her record-breaking concert film than become the subject of a corny punchline. Some fans speculated that Swift had left the awards show altogether after The Eras Tour lost the new cinematic and box office achievement award to Barbie.
Contrary to these assumptions, a source at the ceremony clarified to TMZ that Swift hadn’t left immediately after the loss. “Taylor left her seat shortly after the cinematic achievement category to go to the restroom, and ended up watching the rest of the show from the back,” the source revealed. “We’re told she did leave the venue altogether about 15 minutes before the Globes ended.”
This suggests that Swift stayed for at least one more category, and it’s likely she witnessed Stone’s film, Poor Things, take home the award for best motion picture, musical or comedy. Regardless, it’s understandable that she might want to beat the traffic and make a timely exit before the final Oppenheimer acceptance speeches.
